Taipei Main Station is the most significant landmark of Taipei. This is the gateway in and out of Taipei, filled with the memories of returning to grandfather's home, including the crowded people in the station in summertime, the carriages of Taiwan Railways, and the Railway Bento box meals. Upon the booming material civilization and the prosperity of cities, I want to create a spiritual dialogue of the present and the past, dream and memory, the artificial and the Nature, prosperity and simplicity.
Once simple or even struggling past is yet to be forgotten. It dwells at a corner of our memory, whisked and deposited by the silhouettes of passers-by…
"Grandfather's home in the countryside" is a Utopia for all urban dwellers mentally, a warm dream sits in an old cottage outside the city intertwined with the sounds cicadas, the woods lit by fireflies at night, the waves in paddy accompanied by the symphony of insects and frogs. Such dream quietly soothes our minds at night as we are overwhelmed by the over-mechanized urban life.
This artwork creates a mirrored world. The bustling commercial space is converted in to a magical, serene "countryside" with bizarre animals and plants composed of old cottages, playing within the screen of the interactive digital wall. When audience approach the device, their figures will be converted to the bizarre creatures made of the bricks of old cottages that play inside the device as well, which pours the reminiscence toward Nature and hometown into the moods of busy urban dwellers.
