Aloft is a VR experience of interactive narrative that was created by Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang. The audience is situated in a virtual reality high in the air at an elevation of 16,000 meters, setting off on a fantastic journey in a plane fuselage falling apart. They are floating in the air as debris symbolizing memories and codes drift in front. When the audience touches with hands, the narrative texts within are triggered and played like a black box/flight recorder that symbolizes the historical memories of humanity or a letter with blurred writing. Faint sounds of communication come from a rusted old cellphone, which is set in motion by the curious touch of the audience and initiates a series of reconstruction and arrangement of meanings at random.  The audience is not merely browsing passively but actively engaging in the experience. An archaic typewriter was drifting and lingering before the eyes of the audience, inviting them to leave the last record of humans at the end of the world. Finally, countless words spring from the pages of Dostoyevsky’s masterpiece, Crime and Punishment, as the world sinks into the darkness with a metaphoric image of karma that marks an endnote for the experience.
