A friend of mine watched my VR work, and what caught her attention the most was not the dazzling visuals in VR but the fact that she found her body disappearing in virtual reality.

This observation sparked my great interest, which led to the creation of this series of sculptures. Using material technology to see out-of-this-world scenery is progress, but using one's mind to see through the ego without relying on external things is another kind of progress.

The "Cosmonaut of Emptiness" series takes famous Buddhist statues from history and transforms them into stainless steel astronaut sculptures probing the universe. The posture of the sitting Buddha reflects two extreme passions: the exploration of the endless external environment and the exploration of the infinite inner mind. From the spacesuit to the kāṣāya, one progresses through continuous exploration and the other transcendence through immobility, seemingly contradictory but innate to human nature.
