"The Eye and I" secured the Best of Fest award at the 2023 FilmGate Interactive Media Festival in Miami, marking a significant achievement for this collaborative VR creation by the internationally acclaimed XR director Hsin-Chien Huang and the pioneer of French electronic music, Jean-Michel Jarre.

Who monitors those in charge of monitoring? It's widely acknowledged that we're under constant surveillance. The Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal, now a popular Netflix series, and WikiLeaks' exposure of extensive government internet surveillance are prime examples. The pervasive presence of spyware on mobile devices remains a prominent societal concern. Surveillance cameras are everywhere, and our everyday conversations and actions are logged and traced through smartphones and online activities. We willingly share selfies on social platforms, subjecting ourselves to digital scrutiny. As big data and AI advance, we're swiftly approaching an era of comprehensive surveillance, seemingly impossible to evade.

"The Eye and I" constructs a virtual rendition of a "Panopticon" within VR. Within this virtual confinement, audiences encounter eighteen virtual cells, each delving into diverse aspects of surveillance. These cells uncover the origins of the prison and its architect, examining surveillance's roots within religion, love, personal life, science, and ethics. Exploring the fusion of belief, technology, authority, and financial technology sheds light on how surveillance intertwines with these domains. Additionally, themes delve into surveillance's role in weaponry and warfare, our voluntary participation in surveillance through social networks, and how our perceptions of surveillance often obscure human essence, portraying only behaviors deemed relevant by powerful entities. Music serves as a crucial element throughout this immersive journey across the twelve virtual cells. Jean-Michel's electronic compositions act as a guiding force across these thematic landscapes, while the VR visuals serve as lyrical expressions, subtly imparting messages that encourage contemplation about the intricate interplay of surveillance.

François Klein, the producer of 'The Eye and I,' made a noteworthy appearance at the festival, sharing insights into the creative inspirations driving the production process. He expressed aspirations to stimulate more creative critical thinking regarding societal responsibilities, using humor to kindle curiosity among audiences and heighten their interest and awareness in contemporary issues and societal dynamics.
