Japan's 2022 Aichi Triennale (Aichi Triennale 2022) just launched, and the VR work "To the Moon" by artists Hsin-Chien Huang and Laurie Anderson will be exhibited on site.
First held in 2010, the Aichi Triennale is now the largest international contemporary art festival in Japan. Since 2020, the world has been under the threat of the COVID-19 epidemic. This year, the curatorial unit of the Aichi Triennale has decided upon a theme of "STILL ALIVE", with the concept derived from Japanese conceptual artist On Kawara's work, "I AM STILL ALIVE". More than 100 artists from 32 countries have been invited to propose possibilities and hypotheses about contemporary life. It is hoped that through this exhibition, viewers will be guided to think about lifestyle and meaning in contemporary society.
"To the Moon" is a joint creation by artists Hsin-Chien Huang and Laurie Anderson. It was originally commissioned by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first human landing on the moon. It is worth mentioning that the "To the Moon" installation at this event combines a version of the VR piece along with video. It presents a picture of the cosmos with visual and audiovisual equipment, and then uses VR equipment to make the audience incarnate as astronauts landing on the moon, moving between six different scenes. This exhibition lasts for 72 days, and you are welcome to come to Aichi Prefecture, Japan so we can explore the moon together.
